About me
Hi, I’m Graeme Syme RD.
I’m a Senior Specialist Gastrointestinal Dietitian / Endoscopist with more than 15 years of experience working within the NHS and private practice.
My work focuses on helping people understand the relationship between diet, health, and disease. Over the years, I have learned that good healthcare is not simply about providing information—it is about making that information genuinely understandable.
Working with people from many different backgrounds showed me how easily medical terminology can become a barrier. I began using diagrams, illustrations, and storytelling to make complex ideas clearer, helping patients feel more confident and involved in decisions about their health.
Why Dyslexic Dietitian?
I’m dyslexic, and traditional, text-heavy ways of learning did not always work for me. I developed my own approach using visual thinking, simple explanations, and memorable stories. Those same techniques later became some of my most effective tools when supporting patients.
Dyslexic Dietitian grew from that experience. Its purpose is simple: to make learning about diet, disease, and health clear, engaging, and useful—without unnecessary jargon or judgement.
Making healthcare easier to understand
My commitment to visual communication also led me to co-found Postscript Medical, which helps healthcare professionals create personalised visual explanations for patients.
I believe people should be active participants in healthcare decisions, not passive recipients of information. When we understand why something matters, meaningful change becomes much easier.
NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme
Graeme Syme was selected for Cohort 6 of the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme in 2022, a national programme supporting NHS healthcare professionals to develop innovative ideas that have the potential to improve healthcare and patient care.
Participation in the programme reflects Graeme’s longstanding interest in healthcare innovation, accessible patient education and the development of practical tools that help make complex health information easier to understand.
