Clarity is care
About me
Hi, I’m Graeme Syme RD.
I’m a Senior Specialist Gastrointestinal Dietitian / Endoscopist with more than 15 years of experience working within the NHS and private practice.
Throughout my career, I have specialised in helping people understand the relationship between diet, health, and disease, empowering them to make informed decisions about their own healthcare.
One of the most important lessons I have learned is that good healthcare is not simply about providing information, it is about helping people truly understand it.
Working with patients from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, many of whom speak English as a second language, taught me that medical terminology and complex explanations often create barriers rather than solutions. To overcome this, I began using simple diagrams, sketches, illustrations, and storytelling techniques to explain complex concepts in a way that was engaging, memorable, and easy to understand.
The results were remarkable. Patients felt more confident, asked better questions, and became more involved in managing their own health.
Why I created Postscript Medical
My passion for improving patient understanding led me to co-found Postscript Medical, a platform designed to help healthcare professionals create personalised visual explanations for patients.
The idea was simple: people are more likely to remember and act upon healthcare advice when they can see and understand what is happening inside their body.
By combining illustrations, annotations, and personalised explanations, we aimed to improve communication, patient understanding, and long-term information retention.
That experience reinforced something I strongly believe:
Patients should be active participants in healthcare decisions, not passive recipients of information.
The story behind Dyslexic Dietitian
Alongside my professional career, I have also lived with dyslexia.
For many years I viewed dyslexia as a challenge. However, over time I realised it had also shaped the way I learn, think, and communicate.
Traditional methods of learning often relied on large amounts of text, technical language, and memorisation. To succeed, I developed alternative approaches using visual thinking, storytelling, diagrams, and simplified explanations.
These same techniques became incredibly effective when working with patients.
What started as a personal learning strategy evolved into a professional philosophy: if something can be explained simply, it can be understood by more people.
That philosophy inspired the creation of Dyslexic Dietitian.
My mission
The mission of Dyslexic Dietitian is simple:
To make learning about diet, disease, and health easy, engaging, and enjoyable.
Through videos, illustrations, animations, articles, and practical resources, I aim to break down complex nutrition and health topics into simple concepts that anyone can understand.
Whether we’re exploring:
- How food travels from farm to plate
- Why we eat the foods we eat
- Digestive health and gut disorders
- Weight management
- Chronic diseases and nutrition
- Nutritional supplements
- Evidence behind popular health trends
my goal is always the same:
Clear explanations. No unnecessary jargon. No confusion.
Just evidence-based nutrition presented in a way that is accessible, memorable, and useful.
What you’ll find here
Dyslexic Dietitian is designed for curious minds.
Whether you’re a patient, healthcare professional, student, parent, or simply interested in learning more about nutrition and health, you’ll find practical information explained through stories, illustrations, and visual learning.
I believe understanding should come before action.
Because when people understand why something matters, they are far more likely to make meaningful and lasting changes.
